PUFFED RICE AND ITS IMPORTANCE IN AYURVEDA

Puffed rice generally known as Laja in Sanskrit or Malar in Malayalam is very lite food and helps to improve the digestion.There are many medicinal property for this special variety of rice product. Also known as white popcorn is locally used in South India for festivals and as offerings to deities.
In Ayurveda we use it in many ways and in many preperations.

LAJA PEYA
It is prepared as soup i.e given in samsarjana karma after panchakarma treatment or as a diet in post panchakarma treatment.
LAJA KSHEERA
It is a energy drink given to patients with low energy or when the blood pressure suddenly goes down after any treatment in Ayurveda.

METHOD OF PREPARATION:
Take 1 glass diluted milk and add 2 tsp of powdered puffed rice or laja into it.Then add sufficient quantity of lump sugar(panam kalkandam in Malayalam) and stir it continuously until it dissolve. Now the drink is ready to serve.

 

LAJA WATER
Given for pregnant ladies in first trimester to overcome morning sickness and to quench the thirst.It is cold in potency and it also increases appetite.
Other uses of this wonder paddy are

  • Relives thirst,vomiting and diarrhoea
  • Good appetizer and helpful in diabetes,obesity and cough.
  • It reduces kapha (HUMOR)
