Dadima the wonder fruit in Ayurveda

Dadima generally known as pomegranate is one of the best immunity booster . The latin name of this wonder fruit is Punica granatum and belongs to the family Punicaceae . In Ayurveda,we have some beautiful synonyms for this fruit like Dantabeeja (meaning fruit seeds which look like our teeth) and Raktha pushpa (flowers are blood red in color and hence can be used to increase our Heamoglobin).

USES AND HABITAT :

This deciduous shrub contain punicalin,punic acid, tannin and punicalagin as main chemical constituent. These chemicals help to maintain good circulation of blood all over the body and improves the quality of blood. According to Ayurveda it tastes sweet(madhura), sour(amla) and astringent(kashayam). The potency of this fruit is amla i.e. sour which helps this fruit to be best used in anorexia(tastelessness) , hence used in fever. After digestion it undergoes sweet taste i.e. madhura vipaka as per Ayurveda and therefore used in gastritis and acidity problems. Pomegranates are used in first trimester of pregnancy for morning sickness and to energize the body with immunity and also to increase the iron content and the amount of heamoglobin in blood.This fruit gives wonderful results in metabolic disorders like Diabetes Melitus, bleeding disorders,burning sensation ,fever and lots more. The main action of this fruit is to calm the heart and very light for digestion and hence known as Hrudya in Ayurveda.
